SUMMARY:Summer Camp for Teens: Candid Portraiture (ages 15-18) with Elisa Haber (In-Person Learning - One Week)
DESCRIPTION:In-Person Learning\nAn environmental portrait creates the story of a person in their home\, work or anywhere else that relates to who they are. A powerful environmental portrait tells the story of the person in one single image. \n\nIn this one-week class\, students will discover the tools and techniques used to create a unique\, compelling\, and technically proficient environmental portrait. Topics covered will include learning the photographer-subject relationship\, meaning how to talk to your subjects and direct them in a timely manner to capture them in their environment. Much like street photography\, environmental photography is approached in a similar way. Further topics explored will be how to look for interesting elements in the surrounding environment and how to study light - both natural and strobe - to enhance your subject in their natural environment. The class will also entail a close examination of the works of Arnold Newman\, Diane Arbus\, Annie Leibowitz and other photographers who excelled in this arena. \n\nThis course will include at least one field trip\, TBD. Students/parents should be prepared to meet on location and provide their own transportation. In addition\, students should wear comfortable shoes and expect to walk up to two or three miles for each trip. \n\nA digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera or digital mirrorless camera capable of manual control settings are highly recommended for this class. However\, all types of cameras are welcome\, including film cameras. \n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElisa Haber\, from New York City\, is an editorial photographer\, whose work has a strong emphasis on environmental portraiture. Elisa began her career in the documentary film world in the 1990s\, and after attending Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara\, she focused strictly on still photography. She began her career working for magazines such as Flaunt and Venice. Flaunt magazine hired her to photograph “Public Access Stars”\, which inspired her to continue this on-going series which eventually evolved into a much larger project documenting over 20 cable tv access “celebrities”. Venice magazine launched her career into shooting Hollywood focused portraits. She has a portfolio ranging from film composers\, such as Randy Newman\, Mark Isham\, and Elmer Bernstein. Her list of film directors ranges from Wes Anderson Alfonso Cuaron\, Christopher Guest and Errol Morris. She has an extensive actor celebrity portfolio as well. Her true passion is photographing series of work with an Americana bent. Her latest series “Twinsburg” is going on its fifth year\, following twins that attend a yearly Twins festival in Twinsburg\, Ohio.\n\nElisa resides in Venice\, CA with her partner\, daughter\, now in college\, and 3 dogs and two cats.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Click here to view instructor profile.
