SUMMARY:Preserving Your Legacy: How to Safeguard and Begin Archiving Your Photo Collection with Peter Bennett (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Supporting the Photographic Community. Donations to support LACP's Gear Drive and affected victims of the Southern California fires: \n\nThe recent fires here in Los Angeles tragically showed us how important proper preparation and planning can be in safeguarding our digital and analog photo collections\, as well as other assets. In this workshop we will discuss some essential steps you can take to help protect and preserve your photo collection in the event of natural or man made disasters\, or technological failures.\n\nBut it is also important to think about the long-term care of our photographic legacy and life's work. Archiving film and prints have established guidelines for archival preservation\, but digital archiving is still in its infancy. We will look at ways to begin the archival preservation of your physical and digital photographic assets\, things you can do to not only safely store them\, but to ensure their succession and make your work available to others for years to come.\n\nAfter a long\, professional photographic career\, Peter Bennett started to think about the long-term preservation of both his professional and personal photographic archives. He has since been exploring both analog and digital archiving methods and works with his clients to help them safeguard and preserve their photographic assets\, as well as providing tools and resources to help them accomplish their archiving goals.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nPeter Bennett Born in Queens\, New York\, and growing up in Greenwich Village\, Peter Bennett picked up his first camera and took his first darkroom class at the age of twelve. Peter has spent his career primarily as an editorial photographer\, in recent years focusing his camera on a variety of environmental subjects and stories. He has been photographing the Los Angeles River since 2008 which can be seen in his latest book: The Los Angeles River - Photographs by Peter Bennett\, published in late 2021. Peter has also been documenting local wetlands since 2018\, as well as covering environmental justice stories in Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley. From 1998-2014 he owned and ran his own photo agency\, Ambient Images\, which specialized in travel images of New York and California. Peter’s work has appeared in hundreds of publications including the New York Times\, Sierra Magazine\, Time\, Newsweek\, National Geographic\, Sunset Magazine\, Los Angeles Magazine\, and New York Magazine. He has worked with a number of organizations including the Sierra Club\, Greenpeace and Friends of the LA River. His prints hang in the California State Capitol\, California Science Center’s permanent Ecosystem exhibit\, and many other museums\, private institutions\, and collector’s homes.\n\nView Instructor Profile Here.
