SUMMARY:Layers of Imagination: The Art of Multiple Exposure with Manuela Thames (Online Learning - Six Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:Online Learning\nThe practice of using multiple exposures to create a single image can bring dreamlike\, surreal and otherworldly qualities to photography and expands the possibilities for imagination and vision. Fine-art photographer Manuela Thames demonstrates methods that can be applied to all genres\, from portraits and landscapes to abstract and still life.\n\nThis workshop begins with a step-by-step introduction to the Adobe Photoshop techniques combining two or more images through the use of blending modes. In addition\, Manuela explains how she uses layer masks and other tools and adjustments to bring her creative vision to life. These techniques and Photoshop steps will be reviewed and practiced repeatedly through various assignments. While participants experiment with several approaches\, Manuela also shares advice and direction for creating multiple exposures in-camera (up to 10 exposures) and discusses the creative advantages and disadvantages of both methods.\n\nAs participants become more comfortable with the techniques\, they explore topics such as choosing the right images and pre-visualizing results\, what elements to look for\, when to employ black and white versus color\, and how all those choices affect the final photograph.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nManuela Thames is a photo-based artist and lives in Saint Paul\, Minnesota with her husband and two children. Originally from Germany\, she moved to the US in 2004 when she married her husband\, who is American. Her background is in nursing and alternative health\, but around 2008 she began to focus solely on photography after two life-changing events happened within one year: the death of her brother and the birth of her first child.\n\nHer work consists largely of fine art self-portraits as she aims to explore the brokenness of humanity\, the struggles of loss and grief\, her personal experiences with generational trauma and mental health struggles.\n\nWithin that she continues to explore the human ability of coping\, the strength that evolves out of suffering and our common desire for healing and journey towards wholeness.\n\nHer photography has been exhibited nationally and internationally and her work has been published in numerous photographic journals and magazines.\n\nShe teaches workshops privately and through Santa Fe Workshops\, and offers mentoring services as well.\n\nView instructor profile here.
