DESCRIPTION:Join us in-person for Q&amp\;A and Film Screening with Stephen Wilkes on Friday\, October 24\, 2025\, 7 pm - 9 pm PST\, at the LACP Headquarters\, RSVP Below.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\nSpace is limited – early registration is highly recommended!\nJoin us for a very special evening with acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Stephen Wilkes\, as we host a screening of his powerful 2018 documentary\, Jay Myself — a deeply personal and captivating portrait of his longtime friend and mentor\, legendary photographer Jay Maisel.\nThe film chronicles Maisel’s monumental move from his iconic 36\,000-square-foot home—a former bank building in Manhattan’s Bowery district—after 50 years of living and working in the space. With humor\, honesty\, and reverence\, Jay Myself captures not only a singular artist’s legacy but also a poignant meditation on creativity\, space\, and change.\nFollowing the screening\, Stephen Wilkes will be present for an in-person Q&amp\;A session\, sharing behind-the-scenes stories\, insights into the making of the film\, and reflections on his enduring relationship with Maisel. \nModerator Peter Bennett will be present to help facilitate discussion.\nThis is a rare opportunity to engage directly with one of today’s leading visual storytellers and to celebrate the life and work of a true photographic icon.\n&nbsp\;\nBio\n\nStephen Wilkes (photo by Greg Gorman). Since opening his studio in New York City in 1983\, photographer Stephen Wilkes has built an unprecedented body of work and a reputation as one of America’s most iconic photographers\, widely recognized for his fine art\, editorial and commercial work. Wilkes’ early career interpretations of Mainland China\, California’s Highway One\, and impressionistic “Burned Objects” set the tone for a series of career-defining projects that catapulted him to the top of the photographic landscape. \nIn 2000\, Epson America commissioned Wilkes to create a millennial portrait of the United States\, “America In Detail\,” a 52-day odyssey that was exhibited in New York\, Chicago\, Los Angeles\, and San Francisco. Day to Night\, Wilkes’ most defining project\, began in 2009. These epic cityscapes and landscapes\, portrayed from a fixed camera angle for up to 30 hours capture fleeting moments of humanity as light passes in front of his lens over the course of a full day. Blending these images into a single photograph takes months to complete. Day to Night has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning as well as dozens of other prominent media outlets and\, with a grant from the National Geographic Society\, was extended to include America’s National Parks in celebration of their centennial anniversary and Bird Migration for the 2018 Year of the Bird.\n&nbsp\;\nTickets\nPlease RSVP below.
