SUMMARY:Summer Camp for Teens: The Special Project (ages 15-18) with Andrea Passarella (In-Person Learning - One Week)
DESCRIPTION:In-Person Learning\nChoosing a meaningful topic is the first step of any personally driven photography project. Your subject could be exploring form\, color\, texture and shadows\, or it could be the life of a family member or a part of your city. In this fun and collaborative class\, students will learn the art of visual storytelling and the importance of the editing process. We'll emphasize developing a special topic of focus and using your camera skills to bring that topic to life to produce a series of images that are stylistically and thematically unified. We'll discuss in-camera composition and after-the-photograph analysis of what worked\, and we'll explore documentary versus more personal and artistic projects to develop each photographer's personal vision and style. Come ready to have fun and explore a topic your curious about\, in whatever visual form it comes.\n\nThe class will work together in a supportive and constructive environment\, critiquing each other's work on a daily basis. The goal is for each student to complete a cohesive\, meaningful body of work. A digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera is recommended for this class\; however\, all types of cameras are welcome\, including film cameras\, point &amp\; shoot cameras and smart phones. \n\nAndrea Passarella is a passionate educator and photographer who captures the complexities of life through visual storytelling. With a keen eye for detail\, her work captures the subtleties of human experience and is centered around themes highlighting the interconnectedness of our shared humanity.\n\nAndrea advocates for engaged pedagogy and experiential learning\, weaving social and cultural narratives into her photography and teaching practice. Through her creative approach\, she developed an integrated curriculum centered around “place-keeping\,” where participants learn the craft of photography by exploring the diversity of their cities and neighborhoods. This method encourages reflection\, fosters dialogue\, and promotes an autoethnographic approach to storytelling\, allowing individuals to share their perspectives and experiences.\n\nIn her photography projects\, workshops\, and exhibitions\, Andrea aims to bridge the worlds of contemplative arts\, education\, and social dialogue\, empowering students to engage with the world through a compassionate and creative lens. Committed to fostering emotional intelligence\, resilience\, and personal growth\, she integrates mindfulness and photography into her programs\, supporting students’ development both creatively and personally.\n\nClick here to view instructor profile.
