SUMMARY:Getting Started with Your DSLR Camera with Joaquin Palting (In-Person Learning - One Session)
DESCRIPTION:In-Person Learning\nThis hands-on workshop is designed for photographers who are new to DSLR cameras. Over three hours\, participants will learn the essential settings and controls of their DSLR\, including exposure\, aperture\, shutter speed\, ISO\, focus\, and basic composition. The class demystifies technical jargon and empowers students to understand how their choices affect the final image. \n\nLed by an experienced instructor Joaquin Palting\, the class combines demonstrations and guided practice. Students will gain practical skills for everyday shooting and learn simple strategies for troubleshooting common problems. By the end of the session\, participants will feel more confident capturing clear\, well-exposed images in a variety of situations. \n\nThis class is ideal for absolute beginners or hobbyists looking to upgrade their skills\, or anyone returning to photography who wants a structured refresher. It’salso a perfect first step before enrolling in LACP’s longer Basic Photography courses\, providing a strong foundation for more advanced techniques.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nJoaquin Palting is the son of two academics. His mother was an artist who taught photography at institutions of higher learning and workshops in his childhood home. Joaquin’s earliest memories are assisting his mother\, a landscape photographer\, out in the field as she worked. Whether that meant carrying equipment or taking light meter readings\, the creation of art was impressed on him from an early age. Joaquin’s mother\, was a student of two quintessential photographers in the history of photography\, Brett Weston and Jerry Ulesmann. Hints of that photographic lineage\, and tradition\, can be found in Joaquin’s work.\n\nEarly in his 20 plus year career\, Joaquin moved to Los Angeles\, where he quickly established himself as an editorial and advertising photographer. Working bi-coastally\, between Los Angeles and New York\, Joaquin counted: The New Yorker\, Rolling Stone\, The New York Times\, Nike\, Nordstrom\, Footlocker\, Virgin\, Warner Brothers Records\, and Sony among his numerous clients.\n\nIn 2015 Joaquín decided to shift his focus from commercial photography to building an art practice and becoming an art educator and academic. As a visual artist\, he is known for his conceptual storytelling\, creating works using traditional large format photography\, video\, and performance. His art has been exhibited internationally and featured on the websites of countless contemporary photography tastemakers\, including Aperture\, Float Magazine\, Landscape Stories\, Lens Culture\, LenScratch\, and Urbanautica.\n\nIn addition to his art practice\, Joaquín is a much sought-after instructor who teaches art and photography at many venues\, including San Diego State University\, The University of California\, Irvine\, Medium Photo\, the Los Angeles Center of Photography\, and the Laguna Art Museum.\n\nJoaquín holds an MFA in studio art from the University of California\, Irvine.\n\nView instructor profile here.
