SUMMARY:The Contemporary Landscape with Brad Temkin (Online Learning - Five Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:Online Learning Class\nHow do we see and perceive the contemporary landscape beyond the marks that humanity has left on it? What can the landscape\, in all its forms and iterations\, teach us about ourselves? Under Brad Temkin’s expert guidance\, we examine these questions in depth while learning to create pictures that are poetic and beautiful.\n\nWith the help of exercises\, classroom discussions\, portfolio reviews and critiques\, as well as informal artist talks with professional landscape photographers\, we gain a deeper understanding of craft and become better at articulating our ideas. We embrace pre-visualization and post-visualization approaches\, but our overriding objective is to understand our own process and how we can best interpret it as a final presentation. Students will attain a solid comprehension and knowledge of the genre and they will gain insight into a vast collection of contemporary and vintage landscape projects.\n\nThe course will feature two or three guest appearances.\n\nThis course is strictly limited to 10 participants.\n\nBrad Temkin is perhaps best known for his photographs of contemporary landscape. His work is held in numerous collections\, including The Art Institute of Chicago\; Milwaukee Art Museum\; Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston\; Akron Art Museum\; Amon Carter Museum of American Art\; and Museum of Contemporary Photography\, Chicago\, among others. His images have appeared in such publications as Aperture\, Black &amp\; White Magazine\, TIME Magazine and European Photography. He has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in 2007 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017. Temkin has published three monographs to date: Private Places: Photographs of Chicago Gardens (Center for American Places 2005)\; ROOFTOP (Radius Books 2015)\; and The State Of Water (Radius Books 2019). Temkin has been an adjunct professor at Columbia College in Chicago since 1984.\n\nView instructor profile here.
