SUMMARY:Shaping the Photobook with Tim Carpenter (In-Person Learning - Three Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:In-Person Learning\nIn this intensive three-day workshop with Tim Carpenter\, participants will develop and refine a work-in-progress photobook project through focused editing\, sequencing\, and discussion. \n\nCombining lectures\, practical assignments\, and in-depth group critiques\, the workshop is designed to help photographers move their projects forward with clarity and intention. An introductory online session - scheduled for Wednesday\, October 7\, 6 pm PST - will set the stage with key ideas and a preparatory assignment. \n\nEach participant will present their project to the group\, receiving detailed feedback while also learning from the perspectives and processes of others. Through guided exercises\, you’ll explore how editing and sequencing shape meaning\, as well as how structure\, rhythm\, and pacing contribute to a cohesive photobook. \n\nParticipants will also examine and discuss influential photobooks\, using them as models for creative and conceptual approaches. \n\nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have produced a newly considered edit and sequence of your project\, along with practical strategies for continuing its development. This workshop is ideal for photographers with an existing body of work who are ready to take the next step toward a photobook.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nTim Carpenter is a photographer\, writer\, and educator who works in Brooklyn and central Illinois. He is the author of several photobooks\, among them Little\; A month of Sundays\; Christmas Day\, Bucks Pond Road\; Local objects\; The king of the birds\; and A house and a tree. Tim received an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School in 2012. He is a faculty member of the Penumbra Foundation Long Term Photobook Program and serves as a mentor in the Image Threads Mentorship Program.
