SUMMARY:Timeline: Richmond to Washington\, D.C. Corridor with Shane Rocheleau (Hybrid Learning)
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid Learning\nTimeline is a real-time exploration of our changing world through the photographic lens—a living\, evolving archive built by documentarians\, photojournalists\, and street photographers capturing what is happening right now in the places they call home\, documenting a nation in flux and creating a visual record for next generations.\n\nLearn more here.\n\nCohort - Richmond-Washington D.C. Corridor with Shane Rocheleau \n\n\nThe Richmond-Washington D.C. Corridor witnessed America’s transformation from the colonial era to the twenty-first century. Richmond served as the capital of the Confederate States during the Civil War\, and it was along this corridor that John Wilkes Booth planned to kidnap and assassinate Abraham Lincoln. It was also where he was ultimately seized. The Corridor witnessed the rise of the modern era\, and\, in more recent decades\, became the target of economic revitalization.\n\nAnchoring its point of view in Richmond\, VA\, Washington D.C. and the histories and routes that might bind them together\, this cohort will explore the stories\, events and moments that define the complex realities of the region. Participants will expand the Timeline archive with work rooted in sensibility to the past and present\, and a deep engagement with the coordinates of local histories\, as well as their lasting impact on the present.\n\nThe first meeting will be held via Zoom on Saturday\, January 23\, 1-3:30pm (Eastern Time). It will be an introductory session\, during which Shane will discuss his work and the participants will share theirs. The group will meet for a photowalk in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom the following day\, Sunday\, January 24\, 12-2pm (Eastern Time). Subsequent sessions will be scheduled by Shane and the group\, including a photowalk in Washington\, D.C. two weeks after.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nShane Rocheleau (MFA\, Virginia Commonwealth University) is an American photographer who confronts the endemic position of toxic masculinity and white supremacy within the American experience.\n\nRocheleau has exhibited in the United States\, Spain\, Russia\, Brazil\, Australia\, Ukraine\, The United Kingdom\, India\, and Germany. His photographs have been featured in a wide variety of print and online publications\, including Aperture’s The PhotoBook Review\, Dear Dave Magazine\, The Washington Post\, and British Journal of Photography.\n\nRocheleau’s three monographs – You Are Masters Of The Fish And Birds And All The Animals (2018)\, The Reflection In The Pool (2019)\, and Lakeside (2022) – are published by Gnomic Book. His work is variously collected by the Museum of Modern Art\, Tate Britain\, the Vogue Italia Collection\, and Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma\, amongst others.\n\nRocheleau is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow and currently lives and works in Richmond\, Virginia.\n\nVIEW INSTRUCTOR PROFILE HERE
