SUMMARY:Timeline: New York City with Amy Touchette (Hybrid Learning)
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid Learning\nTimeline is a real-time exploration of our changing world through the photographic lens—a living\, evolving archive built by documentarians\, photojournalists\, and street photographers capturing what is happening right now in the places they call home\, documenting a nation in flux and creating a visual record for next generations.\n\nLearn more here.\n\nCohort - New York City with Amy Touchette\n\nGuided by photographer Amy Touchette\, the New York City cohort of Timeline will explore one of the world’s most dynamic and continually evolving urban landscapes. From its distinct neighborhoods and communities to the constant movement of people\, cultures\, and ideas through its streets\, New York offers an extraordinary setting for documenting the everyday moments and larger forces that shape contemporary city life.\nParticipants will engage deeply with the people\, places\, rhythms\, and visual stories that define New York City\, developing long-form photographic projects that reflect the city’s complexity and character. Through Touchette’s mentorship and a sustained practice of observation and engagement\, photographers will contribute a diverse and evolving portrait of New York to the Timeline archive—creating a visual record of a city in constant motion and transformation.\nThe first meeting will be held via Zoom on Saturday\, January 30\, 1-3:30pm (Eastern Time). It will be an introductory session\, during which Amy will discuss her work and the participants will share theirs. The group will meet for a photowalk (TBD) the following day\, Sunday\, January 31\, 12-2pm (Eastern Time). Subsequent sessions will be scheduled by Amy and the group.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAmy Touchette is a Brooklyn-based photographer known for her street and documentary-style portrait photography. Her work often focuses on exploring identity\, individuality\, and community\, particularly within urban environments like New York City. Trained at the International Center of Photography\, where she’s now faculty\, her street portraits have been published in The New York Times\, The Guardian\, and Women Street Photographers (Prestel\, 2021) and are now exhibiting at ANU Museum in Tel Aviv through 2027. Her second monograph\, Personal Ties: Bed-Stuy\, Brooklyn (Schilt Publishing\, 2022)\, debuted at London’s National Portrait Gallery in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition\, garnered a Critical Mass Top 50\, and was short-listed for the Lucie Photo Book Prize. Described by BuzzFeed as "a master of street photography in the busiest of concrete jungles\, New York City\,” Touchette regularly gives artist lectures\, delivers public talks\, and writes for various publications about capturing life on the street. She is represented by CLAMP in New York and Little Big Galerie in Paris.
