SUMMARY:Diptychs\, Triptychs and Beyond: Crafting Visual Narratives Through Image Pairing with Manuela Thames (Online Learning - Six Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:Online Learning\nDiptychs (and triptychs\, quadriptychs\, etc.) have become popular ways to allow images to tell a story or evoke a concept or feeling. It is a fun\, creative and imaginative tool to communicate one’s vision as an artist and give new meaning to images. \n\nManuela Thames begins this six-session online workshop by introducing and reviewing techniques necessary to create diptychs using Adobe Photoshop. Participants practice the techniques through various assignments throughout the workshop. As participants become more comfortable with some basic techniques\, we move on to creating triptychs and even quadriptychs or beyond\, and we explore alternative ways of creating such combinations outside of Photoshop. In addition\, we will dive into basics of color theory and visual design and the possibility of including mixed media. Each session includes group image reviews led by Manuela and the study of a diverse selection of photographers. \n\nThe goal of this class is to develop one’s own vision for combining/pairing photographs and a better understanding of how to choose the right images\, as well as to enjoy the experimentation\, play and surprise that comes with this process. This workshop is for photographers of all genres including portraiture/self-portraiture\, landscapes\, street photography or still life. Get ready to be inspired and expand your horizon for creative image making! \n\n&nbsp\;\n\nManuela Thames is a photo-based artist and lives in Saint Paul\, Minnesota with her husband and two children. Originally from Germany\, she moved to the US in 2004 when she married her husband\, who is American. Her background is in nursing and alternative health\, but around 2008 she began to focus solely on photography after two life-changing events happened within one year: the death of her brother and the birth of her first child.\n\nHer work consists largely of fine art self-portraits as she aims to explore the brokenness of humanity\, the struggles of loss and grief\, her personal experiences with generational trauma and mental health struggles.\n\nWithin that she continues to explore the human ability of coping\, the strength that evolves out of suffering and our common desire for healing and journey towards wholeness.\n\nHer photography has been exhibited nationally and internationally and her work has been published in numerous photographic journals and magazines.\n\nShe teaches workshops privately and through Santa Fe Workshops\, and offers mentoring services as well.\n\nView instructor profile here.
