Best Practices for Photographers Seeking Gallery Representation with Douglas Marshall
Monday, October 22, 7-9 pm
(doors open at 6:30 pm for light reception)
Independent Curator and Gallery Director Douglas Marshall will discuss best practices for photographers seeking gallery representation for their work including how to seek appropriate galleries, approaching Directors and curators and contemporary portfolio expectations. Additional insight on the significance and utility of art fairs in the primary market will give aspiring exhibiting-artists an insider’s perspective on the curatorial selection process in contemporary photography galleries.
Douglas Marshall is an independent curator and art consultant based in Los Angeles. Following completion of undergraduate studies in Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin, Douglas worked as a photographer before moving to the West Coast to pursue a curatorial career in the contemporary art world. There Douglas joined Peter Fetterman Gallery, a leading American dealer of fine art photography, where he held the role of Director and curated dozens of exhibitions, international art-fairs and collector acquisitions. Now independent, Douglas works to bring emerging and international voices in contemporary art to the American market through collaborative projects with artists, galleries, art-fairs and creative start-up organizations.
This Fall, Douglas will be opening Galerie XII, a new exhibition space for contemporary photography in Los Angeles.
