Discovered Treasures: Making Art with Found Photo Archives with Kelly Webeck (Webinar)
- June 19, 2021
10:00 am - 11:30 am
When an artist alters a vernacular photograph the meaning is transformed and the faces of strangers staring back through the snapshots become familiar. During this webinar, participants will be introduced to contemporary artists who work with found photographs and alter them through a variety of processes. Discovered in flea markets, thrift shops, dumpsters, yard sales, and donation bins, these found treasures offer a great deal of flexibility and freedom to artists. While examining the works of contemporary artists, Kelly Lee Webeck will pose questions to help stir the inspiration of the audience. We will discuss what it means when an artist chooses to work with an original photograph versus a reproduction and how the process the artist alters with transforms the recontextualized photographic object. This webinar will open your eyes to the medium of altered found photographs!
