The Los Angeles Center of Photography is thrilled to produce a new online series of events called Photography, History and Ideas. The series seeks to examine powerful and profound image-making that have impacted our world and changed our lives. A notable scholar will be invited to share research of photography and engage in conversation with the audience. A moderator will be present to facilitate discussion and ideas.
Chapter 1 – Tuesday, November 15, 5 pm PST
Topic: Jewish photographers and the resistance during WWII.
Guest: Robert Hirsch; Moderated by Rotem Rozental, Ph.D..
A resident of New York, Robert Hirsch is a photographer and writer whose books include: Seizing the Light: A Social & Aesthetic History of Photography, Light and Lens: Thinking About Photography in the Digital Age, Photographic Possibilities: The Expressive Use of Equipment ,Concepts, Ideas, Materials, and Processes, Exploring Color Photography: From Film to Pixels and Transformational Imagemaking: Handmade Photography Since 1960
He is a former associate editor for Digital Camera (UK) and Photovision Magazines, and a contributor to Afterimage, Exposure, Buffalo Spree, The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography, The Photo Review, and World Book Encyclopedia. He is the former executive director of CEPA Gallery and has curated numerous exhibitions. His own images have been internationally exhibited in over 200 solo and group shows. Online Learning via Zoom
This series will be taught online via Zoom software/application. Each segment will run about 90 minutes in duration with for Q & A from the audience.
