Explore the magic of Venice, Italy and capture this unique floating city with your camera. Venice is an enchanting place with a rich cultural history. The city is built on more than 100 small islands and has no roads or cars, just canals, waterways and piazzas lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces and churches. This extraordinary island will inspire you to create, as it has played muse to writers and artists for centuries.

Guided by your instructor Sarah Hadley, author of Lost Venice, you will discover your own creative personal expression in this magnificent place. Sarah will provide daily guidance and inspiration, and spend one on one time with each participant, discussing your specific artistic goals and aims. In individual and group meetings, Sarah will help you to better understand your image making process, and how to create evocative and meaningful work in a such a miraculous city.

Each morning you will meet for coffee and discussion, and then Sarah will lead you off the beaten path to inspiring locations throughout the city. You will have time to explore and capture the splendor of Venice, as well as time to review and edit your work. You will meet together as a group for several evenings to discuss and show work in a supportive environment. The workshop will run 6 days and 6 nights and is limited to only nine participants.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP DESIGNED FOR?

This workshop is designed to accommodate all camera formats and all skill levels. Our goal is to introduce you to the breathtaking beauty and magic of Venice, Italy and to help you advance your photography through creative personal expression.

REQUIREMENTS/PREREQUISITES

Participants must be familiar using their cameras and have a basic understanding of photography fundamentals including how to download images and create slideshows in Lightroom or Bridge. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to comfortably walk several miles a day and up and down many bridges.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING

October is normally very pleasant in Venice. Temperatures are usually in the 60s and 70s, but it could be warmer or rainy. Good outdoor walking shoes, hats and sunscreen are recommended. Layered clothing is recommended.

LODGING RECOMMENDATIONS

Airbnb or VRBO have a number of apartments available and there are also many good hotels in Venice. Once you enroll, we will tell you the neighborhood where you will meet some of the mornings and evenings, but everything in Venice is no more than a 20 minute walk.

TRAVEL SUGGESTIONS

It is recommended you arrive in Venice at least a full day prior to the workshop (or more), so as not to be too jet lagged on the first day.
