About
Hybrid Learning
This course guides you on how to establish a personal approach to creating photography in public, otherwise known as street photography. Ibarionex walks you through how he developed his personal approach to street photography and how it allows him to create a wide variety of imagery.
The course goes beyond equipment choices, but to visually parse a scene and gauge its potential, for an interesting and engaging photograph. Discussions will include:
- Evaluating a scene for light and shadow, line and shape, color and gesture.
- The difference between “fishing” and “hunting” approaches to street photography.
- The importance of lens choice and to proximity and composition.
- What makes a scene worth or not worthy of being photographed.
- The ethics of street photography, including asking or not asking permission.
- What locations are best for street photography.
- The role of editing and post processing.
- Learning how to rank and select image from a photography session.
Along with in-class discussions, the course includes two on-location shooting sessions. Multiple exercises will be shared with participants get hands-on experiences with a variety of different approaches to making photographs in public. This time will allow students to practice what they’ve learned in the discussions sessions and to challenge themselves to photography in different ways than they have in the past. Select images from these on-location sessions will be culled from for the on-line critique sessions.
