About

Hybrid Learning (In-Person and Online)

Part of LACP’s Street Photography Festival 2023.

This hybrid class provides you an intimate, hands-on experience for learning the skills and practice of producing great street photography. On Monday, students will meet on location (TBA) for a meet-and-greet and discuss the logistics of the day. After this initial meeting, students will hit the streets of Hollywood. Nancy Kaye will photograph with 2-3 people at a time for roughly 40 minutes each. The group will reconvene in a designated spot at the end of the session for questions and discussion.

The subsequent Wednesday session will meet online via zoom, providing students the opportunity to critique and review work taken during the Monday shoot.

This course is open to beginning and experienced photographers alike, although students must be able to operate their camera.

The location for this street photography class will be Hollywood.

This course is strictly limited to 10 students.

Nancy Kaye is an LA photographer, educator, and curator, previously based in New York and London. Her background is photojournalism, having worked for The Washington Post, The New York Times, and AP. She currently focuses on sociologically-driven and fine art projects.

Her photos are widely exhibited in juried shows and included in numerous books and documentaries. Her portrait of author Ralph Ellison is in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. She was honored with inclusion in Your Daily Photograph’s Hot 100 of 2021, 100 photographers selected out of 4,500 by collectors and curators, through LA’s Duncan Miller Gallery.

Nancy teaches at LA Valley College and LA City College, leads street photo workshops, and guides photographers in personal projects. She was interviewed for Street Photography Magazine’s February podcast.

Among group exhibitions she’s curated are With Water/Without Water at Photoville LA; Capture This Moment, ten online exhibitions documenting the pandemic for American Jewish University’s Whizin Center; A World at Home, depicting the pandemic’s early days; and 2022: A Year of Duality, a 2023 print exhibit.

She’s currently president of the LA chapter of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP.)
