About

In-Person Learning

This fun and creative photography class that explores how images can express identity, mood, and personal stories. In this course, students will look beyond the casual selfie and learn how photographers use self-portraiture as a powerful form of visual communication.

The week-long course encourages teens to experiment with cameras, backgrounds, and composition to create thoughtful and imaginative self-portraits. Students will learn how choices like framing, angle, expression, and environment can change the message of an image. The class will explore examples of self-portraiture from contemporary photographers and artists, helping students see how photography can reflect personality, creativity, and point of view.

Projects will emphasize creativity, self-expression, and visual storytelling in a supportive and age-appropriate environment. All types of cameras – except analog or film – are welcome, including smartphones and digital cameras. By the end of the week, students will have created a small series of self-portraits that reflect who they are and how they see themselves.
