LACP is thrilled to announce a Spring Benefit honoring the influential photographer and mentor Sam Abell.

Join us to celebrate his work and support LA’s photographic community.

Throughout his decades long career, Sam Abell produced some of the most iconic frames of the twentieth century; from cowboys across the American West to small towns in Japan or life in 1980s Soviet Russia. Abell’s viewpoint is that of the curious wandered, who tries to hang on to unexpected moments and generously offer them for others to explore. His poetic compositions accept his position as both a chronicler and a vessel for nuanced and unexpected ideas and viewpoints to emerge on the surface.

Learning photography from his father, Abell began working for The National Geographic in 1970. His works illustrated dozens of essays and were the subjects of several books and exhibition catalogues. Abell is also an inspiring writer and educator who has been mentoring artists across the world.

Our LACP community is particularly grateful for Abell’s commitment for training others and his devotion to LA’s photographers. His workshops inspired many visual storytellers in our community to further develop their practice and reach new heights.

To mark this event, Sam produced a limited edition which he captured while teaching at LACP during the recent wildfires. View it HERE and purchase below.
