About
Conflict invited LACP members to explore issues relating to global, regional, national, communal and personal conflicts.
Wars, terrorist attacks on civilians, gun violence, political strife, attacks on democracy, violence directed at the LGBTQ+ community, as well as BIPOC and AAPI people, Antisemitism and Islamophobia, social media bots and trolls—our world could be seen as being driven by disputes and clashes, affecting our connections with one another and ourselves. In Regarding the Pain of Others, Susan Sontag observes how the presentation (or the spectacle) of the atrocities of war in the media affects viewers’ viewpoint and behavior. Conflict reflects upon those issues, but also wonders about the ways in which the capturing of conflicts – from global wars to intimate moments – impacts the photographers and their perspective.
Conflict addresses how global conditions shift how we see others and represent ourselves, how we respond and communicate, how we see and understand lives in other places, as well as how we as individuals are affected by political, social and economic transformations.
