The Los Angeles Center of Photography is pleased to announce a special Photo Gallery Event, celebrating the photography of students enrolled in afterschool workshops organized in partnership with CII Community Schools. The photographs have been selected by students and their instructors from the program launch in July 2022 through April 2023.
The opening reception is on Tuesday, May 23 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the Animo Legacy MS Auditorium at 12226 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA and is open to the public for that night only.
LACP offers photography workshops and experiences in collaboration with various youth organizations across Los Angeles, including Inglewood Parks and Rec and Arts at Blue Roof. Offerings include free community events, summer workshops and afterschool programs. Each workshop culminates with a public program to share the students’ work with their community and the wider world.
The students learn valuable forms of non-verbal creative expression and visual literacy, while becoming familiar with basic camera skills, a variety of photographic practices, including portraiture and street photography, editing and sequencing processes. Classes emphasize the importance of establishing an individual point of view and personal narratives. Works by more than 50 students will be on view, with topics ranging from still life to environmental portraits of their friends and community members.
