Hybrid Learning (In-Person and Online)
Join Thomas Alleman for an exciting photographic journey through the Nisei Week Grande Parade in Little Tokyo, one of Los Angeles’ most colorful and historic cultural celebrations. This class will focus on capturing the energy, traditions, and vibrant personalities that fill the streets during the parade. Students will have the opportunity to photograph marching bands, dancers, floats, and the joyful crowds that come together to celebrate Japanese-American heritage.
Through hands-on guidance, you’ll learn how to capture the fast-paced action, use composition to highlight moments of cultural significance, and tell powerful visual stories within the context of this lively public event. Whether you’re new to parade photography or looking to refine your skills, this class offers a unique chance to document the essence of one of LA’s most iconic community celebrations.
This engaging exploration of Los Angeles is part of LACP’s Meet-Up in LA series of classes, designed for visual storytellers of all levels. Each class includes an in-person photographic experience centered on a distinctive Los Angeles location or a unique LA event, followed by an online Zoom session for critique and reflection on the work created.
Students will develop their photography skills while capturing the eclectic essence of the city—from its neighborhoods and cultural landmarks to its dynamic public gatherings—with a strong focus on narrative and composition. Participants should be familiar with their cameras (digital cameras are strongly encouraged).
This Meet-Up will focus on the Nisei Week Grande Parade in Little Tokyo festivities.
