About
In-Person Learning
In this intensive three-day workshop with Tim Carpenter, participants will develop and refine a work-in-progress photobook project through focused editing, sequencing, and discussion.
Combining lectures, practical assignments, and in-depth group critiques, the workshop is designed to help photographers move their projects forward with clarity and intention. An introductory online session will set the stage with key ideas and a preparatory assignment.
Each participant will present their project to the group, receiving detailed feedback while also learning from the perspectives and processes of others. Through guided exercises, you’ll explore how editing and sequencing shape meaning, as well as how structure, rhythm, and pacing contribute to a cohesive photobook.
Participants will also examine and discuss influential photobooks, using them as models for creative and conceptual approaches.
By the end of the workshop, you will have produced a newly considered edit and sequence of your project, along with practical strategies for continuing its development. This workshop is ideal for photographers with an existing body of work who are ready to take the next step toward a photobook.

Tim Carpenter is a photographer, writer, and educator who works in Brooklyn and central Illinois.
