About
Hybrid Learning
This class serves as an introductory course in photojournalism methods and conventions for students who’ve achieved “advanced beginner” status, at least. Through demonstrations and exercises, students will learn about the camera techniques that are best suited to the situations a photojournalist will be assigned to cover: breaking news, the scheduled news event, the feature situation, sports, and the portrait.
Essential to the success of then photojournalist on such assignments is pre-planning, which will be discussed at length, and follow-through: the gathering of caption information on-site, and the editing, preparation and delivery of files on deadline. We’ll give special attention to the ethics and best practices a photojournalist must practice in the field, and industry guidelines for the ethical use of Photoshop in image creation.
Students will be presented with the work of dozens of photojournalists working today
and in the past, learning about the visual vocabulary of the photojournalism style and the means by which information and feeling is communicated.
