About
Hybrid Learning
Timeline is a real-time exploration of our changing world through the photographic lens—a living, evolving archive built by documentarians, photojournalists, and street photographers capturing what is happening right now in the places they call home, documenting a nation in flux and creating a visual record for next generations.
Cohort – Tulsa, OK with September Dawn Bottoms
In Tulsa, September Dawn Bottoms will lead a cohort centered on documenting a region where history, memory, and contemporary life converge in powerful and often under-recognized ways. Participants will explore Tulsa’s unique cultural landscape—from its fraught historical legacies to its vibrant present—capturing stories that reveal both resilience and transformation. Bottoms’ documentary focus and connection to the area will support photographers in creating honest, resonant visual narratives that broaden the national scope of Timeline. This cohort’s work will illuminate the nuances of life in Oklahoma, offering perspectives rarely seen in mainstream visual discourse.
September Dawn Bottoms is a self-taught documentary and social-issue photographer from Oklahoma, now working between Tulsa and Los Angeles. Originally drawn to photography as a means of personal expression and healing, she subsequently studied photojournalism ethics at community college, then pursued personal projects exploring women’s issues, intergenerational trauma, and family dynamics. Her work has earned wide recognition, including being honored as a 2020 New York Times Photography Fellowship recipient, participating in the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass, and winning a grant from the Leica Women Foto Project in 2022. Her photographs have been published in major international outlets such as TIME Magazine, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian. Through her deeply personal and empathetic visual voice, Bottoms documents difficult, often underrepresented stories.
