Whimsical San Francisco
In 2016, I was told that my position had been deemed redundant, the 3rd time this has happened to me since 2010. My stress and anxiety levels increased due to financial fears, the prospect of relocating to another state, and working in a company where I had no work history or relationships. Not to mention the confidence and ego punches endured during the job application experience. I decided to buy a camera and to make photos on the streets of San Francisco to create a distraction from job searching, to get out of my house, and to do something creative. Making photos of people in the streets has taught me how to be in the present, to see my life in a broader context, and to be positive about unplanned life changes.
The Whimsical San Francisco project is a collection of candid street photos I have made over the past 3 years. My photo making technique was twofold. I randomly walked around the streets hunting for something to photograph, and remained in one place, waiting for the photo opportunity to present itself. My camera (Sony a6500) was set to either aperture or shutter priority, and my lens was either a prime 35mm or telephoto (24mm to 105mm). I shot in RAW and processed my photos with Lightroom and Photoshop.
