Hybrid Learning (In-Person and Online)
Join photographer Peter Bennett for an exciting one-day workshop in the charming town of Avalon on Catalina Island. Designed for both beginning and experienced photographers, this immersive experience will take place from 11 AM to 7 PM, allowing participants to explore the rich history and stunning scenery of Avalon while honing their photography skills.
Throughout the day, you’ll capture the unique character of this picturesque locale, learning to tell compelling visual stories through your lens. Peter will provide guidance on composition, lighting, and other photographic techniques, all while fostering a fun and collaborative atmosphere.
After our adventure in Avalon, we will reconvene online via Zoom for a second session dedicated to critiquing and reviewing your work. This is a fantastic opportunity to receive feedback and deepen your understanding of your photographic journey. Don’t miss this chance to explore, create, and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts!
NOTE: Participants are required to purchase a ferry ride ticket to and from Avalon via the Catalina Express. It is strongly encouraged to purchase ferry ride tickets well in advance of the class.?On March 29th, there is a ferry ride departing Long Beach at 9:50 AM and returning the same day at 7:45 PM. Participants are encouraged to purchase tickets for this ferry ride, if choosing to stay in Avalon one day only. (From Long beach, the ferry typically takes about one hour to Avalon and one hour back.)
Peter Bennett Born in Queens, New York, and growing up in Greenwich Village, Peter Bennett picked up his first camera and took his first darkroom class at the age of twelve. Peter has spent his career primarily as an editorial photographer, in recent years focusing his camera on a variety of environmental subjects and stories. He has been photographing the Los Angeles River since 2008 which can be seen in his latest book: The Los Angeles River – Photographs by Peter Bennett, published in late 2021. Peter has also been documenting local wetlands since 2018, as well as covering environmental justice stories in Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley. From 1998-2014 he owned and ran his own photo agency, Ambient Images, which specialized in travel images of New York and California. Peter’s work has appeared in hundreds of publications including the New York Times, Sierra Magazine, Time, Newsweek, National Geographic, Sunset Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, and New York Magazine. He has worked with a number of organizations including the Sierra Club, Greenpeace and Friends of the LA River. His prints hang in the California State Capitol, California Science Center’s permanent Ecosystem exhibit, and many other museums, private institutions, and collector’s homes.
