Join acclaimed designer and photographer Caleb Cain Marcus in this immersive six-session workshop designed for photographers eager to transform their sustained series of images into a published photo book. Participants will collaborate closely with Caleb to articulate their unique projects, exploring essential steps for successfully approaching publishers.
The course will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including generating compelling book ideas, crafting effective proposals, identifying potential publishers, understanding the criteria they use to evaluate submissions and how to maximize the published book’s reach and visibility. Participants will learn how to sequence their photographs, recognize a publisher’s strengths, negotiate contracts, understand financials and navigate the intricacies of design, printing, distribution and marketing.
Emphasizing a supportive and inspiring atmosphere, this workshop combines group discussions and one-on-one sessions to refine the project’s vision, artist statements and develop impactful book proposals. By the end of the course, participants will present new visual sequences and ideas, ready to take their projects to the next level.
Caleb Cain Marcus is head of Brooklyn based design studio Luminosity Lab, known for developing the creative strategy, and leading the design of publications for museums, galleries, publishers, and artists. His work has been recognized by the Art Directors Club, AIGA and Tokyo Type Directors Club and is in the collections of the Getty and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
